Alessia received her PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology from Sapienza University of Rome in 2021, after spending two short-term research periods at the Laboratory for Behavioral & Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, USA, and the Neurobiology of Behavior Laboratory at Santa Lucia Foundation in Rome, Italy.
Her passion for neuroscience and pharmacology began early. In order to develop an original research thesis for her MSc, she gained two fellowships to join the Mathison Centre for Mental Health Research & Education and the Hotchkiss Brain Institute at the University of Calgary, Canada, where she investigated how the endocannabinoid system modulates memory under stress. She received her master’s degree in Medicinal Chemistry with honours from Sapienza University of Rome, Italy.
Alessia has presented her research results in numerous national and international meetings and her findings have been published in several peer-reviewed papers in important scientific journals.
She has worked as a Regulatory Affairs consultant, a role where she combined her accuracy and scientific expertise to support pharmaceutical industry-specific needs, while broadening her knowledge of medical management by attending and receiving an advanced master’s in Pharma Medical Affairs.
Alessia knows that science often requires extreme perseverance and dedication. She was determined to become an Angels Initiative consultant in order to contribute to improving patients’ quality of life, and to counteract the detrimental effects of poor stroke treatment in Italy.
